Clean your coffee machine... or switch to Turkish coffee

Clean your coffee machine... or switch to Turkish coffee

Did you know that your coffee machine at home can make you sick if not diligently maintained?

  1. Mold and Bacteria: Espresso machines have many small parts, including water reservoirs, hoses, and filters, where water can accumulate and stagnate. If not cleaned regularly, mold and bacteria can grow in these moist environments and contaminate your coffee.
  2. Coffee Residue: Old coffee grounds and residues can build up inside the machine, leading to rancid flavors and potential health risks if they are not removed.
  3. Lack of Cleaning: Baristas and home users may not clean the machine's components as frequently or thoroughly as needed, which can result in a buildup of coffee oils and residues.

Fret not if it sounds like work, and you still want your coffee. Turkish coffee is a healthier switch due to its simplicity and the way it's prepared:

  1. Simplicity: Turkish coffee is made by boiling finely ground coffee beans with water and sugar (optional). There are no complex machines or parts involved, reducing the risk of mold or bacterial growth.
  2. Freshness: Turkish coffee is typically prepared in small quantities, ensuring that you consume it shortly after brewing. This minimizes the chances of coffee residues and oils building up over time.
  3. No Milk: Traditional Turkish coffee is made without milk, which eliminates concerns related to dairy spoilage or contamination.
